Go with whichever you're comfortable with, you don't want to get something and think 'maybe i shoulda gone with the other'.

The 5770 is a relatively new card, so the drivers for it still haven't matured yet. Its common for ATI drivers to improve over time, with significant improvement in performance (but of course, no guarantees on this one). Also, as newer DX11 games come out, the 5770 will perform better than the 4870 on those; so it appears that in the long run, the 5770 should be the better card.

If you do decide to go with the 4870, its also a great card, and you won't be disappointed with it i'm sure.

Sorry for the double post. But I keep reading that the 5770 is about even or a little bit better than the 4770, yet slower than the 4870 which happens to be cheaper..

I might just get the 4870 unless there is a reason to pay extra for something not as good?

the 5770 is a good bit faster than the 4770. go with the 5770.

What kind of frame rates can I expect to see on games like modern warfare 2, crysis, etc?

Can this card hold 50-60fps in mw2?

For crysis, can it hold like 30+?

my 9600 gso got 40 fps in call of duty 4, and with crysis on all high settings except for shaders on medium, and anti aliasing off at 1024x768 i was getting like 35-45 fps and sometimes spikes up in the 50s

I know I am going to see an improvement, I just would like to know how big.

50-60fps in MW2? It should. COD4 run like butter on my 3850 (I haven't forgot your, Vern... had a setback with our bills), so unless MW2 made a huge jump in graphics this would easily run 50-60fps .

Crapsis? It should run better than 30 for sure.

The 5770, while just behind the 4870, will surpass it once the drivers mature, probably within a month. it also runs cooler, to boot.

You won't go wrong with it, let's put it that way.

9600GSO = #30
4870 = #12

Haha it's fine..

I can run COD4 maxed out on it with a solid 95FPS on it.

At that resolution, you are going to get way more than 50-60 frames. You'll get the max of 90 unless you remove the roof. In that case, you'll likely be up in the 200's. @ 1920x1200 in WaW, I'm usually in the upper 100's, and I breach 200 sometimes. My card is quite a bit more powerful, but the resolution difference is bigger.

They just raised the price on all 5770's and now they are no longer within my budget.. I was waiting until friday, payday to buy it but I guess I was too late..

Guess I have no choice but to get the 4870.
