Default $1500 (Australian) Build

hey guys, it's been a long time since i've made a post like this

a friend of mine has 5 days to get a part list and purchase components for a build for his brother. i've grown quite out of touch with parts in the last year or so, so i thought i'd put it to y'all bright sparks.

  • $1500 australian
  • computer will be used for gaming and possibly graphics design in the future
  • open to having SLI on the motherboard
  • won't need more than 250-500GB hdd
  • budget does not include mouse, kb, monitor or speakers
  • budget will have to leave money for windows

thanks in advance

Well the aussie dollar sucks now, so unfortunately its a bad time to do it, but you can still get a pretty good system for that. From
MSY MSY Technology Pty. Ltd.-The Name you can trust-more than 10 years in computer industry get:

E8500 = $289
G.Skill-PI 4GB Kit = $145

And from Mwave:

Biostar TPower I45 Motherboard = $237.50

Mwave Australia: Biostar TPower I45 Motherboard

2x Palit HD4850 = $488.80

Mwave Australia: Palit HD4850, 512MB DDR3, Dual Dual-Link DVI, HDTV, TV-Out, HDMI, PCIe2.0

Seasonic M12 600w Modular = $169.95

Mwave Australia: Seasonic M12 600w Modular, 20+4Pin, 8x SATA, 2x PCI-E, SLI Certified, 80 PLUS (PSUSEAM12SR600W)

Western Digital WD6400AAKS = $99.95

Mwave Australia: Western Digital Caviar SE16, 640GB, 7200RPM, 16MB, SATAII, 3.5", 320g per platter (WD6400AAKS)

TOTAL = $1430.20 AUD

You will be able find some parts cheaper - have a look around and use staticICE :: Australia's comprehensive computer hardware and gadget price comparison search engine to find some good deals, but this gives you an idea. Also, if you want that ram, check what timings they are first. They should be 5-5-5-12, any higher and dont get them.

If he wants a better processor for graphic design, sacrifice one of those HD 4850s and go with a Q9550 instead.
