Ok this is my last thread on this topic. I got it narrowed it down to the 6600gt OC 128megs for 200 - 50 mail in rebate (Don't really trust mail in rebates also would have to add 10 bucks since its online. Or the Ati 9800pro at futureshop on sale at 200. This is local store so no shipping and returning it would be easy. I Have a p4 2.53GHZ on 1 gig ram but AGP on MB is only 4x!!

I like the fact the ati as a tv out on it but also want best performance for games. Can anyone tell me what kind of performance i'd get on a game like Oblivion, fear..
Would i atleast get medium levels on both games? And is one card much better than the other?

These are the links.

Looking for card that will last me about a year being able to play everything at medium graphics but without spending too much since I'm saving for a super computer in a year.

ADD. Just found this card. Looks good too. http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=009649&cid=999.821

please can you or someone tell me what this means? this "PS 3.0" thing...

Pixel shaders 3.0.

And wish someone would answer the other questions i asked. When i bought 6200 256 i returned soon after because it was almost like my ati 9250 256meg. 6600gt is a hugh leap from 6200?

My main interest right now is having medium graphics for Elder scrolls Oblivion which i've already pre-ordered.

yes it is a somewhat huge leap, im sure it'll play Elder scrolls if you have a good CPU and good RAM. but probably only on medium settings.

NICE CHOICE!!!!!!!

if you figure out how to overclock (its really easy overclocking video cards, nothing like cpus, etc), it will be even nicer. that bfg one i think lotta ppl had good luck in getting it to a 6800gt. (unlock extra pipes, extra vertex shader, and faster clock and memory). even right out of the box it should play your games really well.

as for 6200, yes you would see a significant performance boost. the 6200 is not for games. with that card you'll definitely need a new power supply. just be careful in not getting a cheap generic one. you could get a lot of system instability, or worst case scenario, it could kill yoru system (not sure how common this is..)
wattage is not only thing you should be looking at when buying a power supply. look at the amperage rating on the 12V rail. get one with 25A, should be enough for you.

For the price a 6600GT will do you fine, possibly for the whole year until you get your super computer, I have a 6600GT, and it is great for running most visually impressive games at medium settings aka Farcry. I saw the req's for oblivion, and you may need to run it at a slightly lower setting than medium, but other than that, the 6600GT is a very good card for the money.

btw, thanks for the heads up on the PS thing, its been driving me nuts lately.

Also, have a little peep at this site to compare the cards that you are thinking of purchasing, it has good details on lots of cards -
current page = 6600 GT AGP vs 6800 GS AGP . take a look :
