Default would this be a good upgrade

my current system

p4 2.4 ghz
p4v8x-x motheboard
1 gig ram
geforce 6600 gt 128 mb

my new upgrades

p4 3ghz dual core
Asus P5GPL-X motherboard
1 gig ram
geforce 6600gt 128mb

would this make much difference in general performance and gaming performance?

Well you're able to do more, in terms of running more applications simultaneously. But I don't think it's a significant difference in performance. You could however go for another gig of ram or upgrade the video card.

oh ok, i just find it is slower than i wud expect. i thought maybe upgrading to 3ghz might boost performance quite alot (my 2.4ghz is a few years old now)

what about if i changed it to this

p4 dual core 3ghz
geforce 6600gt 128 mb
2 gig of ram (adding one more gig of 2700)

i dont really have the money to upgrade every bit so the most important to boost gaming performance would be the best but i am not sure what to do

If you're looking to boost gaming performance, maybe just get a better graphic card. Your budget?

its not p4 dual core. only intel pentium d's and conroe are dual core. why not try getting an amd athlon 64

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539

its about the same price as the p4 3.0 and amd is supposed to be better for gaming

Actually to boost gaming you should use a better graphics card I would Suggest A XFX GeForce7800GS AGP Extreme Edition, Its cheaper and a little better than the BFG GeForce7800GS OC

What is your budget for your upgrade project and what would you like to be able to do with your new computer?

Cheers!
