I am doing a home study course and a question has been raised, when running the win98 startup floppy disk, why does my computer tell me that I have a C drive when I know that I have not yet installed one?

Makes sense because when you working on a system with a C: drive it automatically chooses the D: designation for the ram-drive. (A: is the floppy that's being read, B: was set up for the old 5 1/4 drives and the letter has stuck and is not really used anymore, and C: is the next drive in line, usually for the hard drive.)
