Default Will this make a good gaming PC?

Hey, Im new to this website, and I don't know a lot about computers, so can someone help me decide if this is a good investment if I am interested in gaming. Fell free to leave any ideas of different upgrades I should purchase.

RAM : OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2x2048MB)

CPU : AMD Athlon 64 X2

MEMORY : 4GB DDR2

Hard Drive : Seagate 320 GB (Might upgrade to 500GB or even 1TB)

Video Card : XFX GeForce 8800 GT - Alpha Dog Edition, 512MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, Variable Fan Speed

Mother Board and Sound Card are only stock, because I think I can do without upgrading them.

Thanks Guys

So this is an upgrade,

What are your system specs right now?

Is that list parts you own or parts you are looking at?

For gaming you would be better off going with an Intel build right now because AMD's CPU's are not as good as intels, but if you don't want to upgrade your motherboard and it is socket AM2 this is a good CPU:

Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ Brisbane 2.8GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core black edition Processor - Processors - Desktops

For the video card the HD 4850 is better then the 8800GT and it costs about $180.

Mainboard :Acer EM61SM/EM61PM
Chipset :nVidia 6100V
Processor :AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ @ 2300 MHz
Physical Memory :2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card :NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 405
Hard Disk :ST332082 (320 GB)
DVD-Rom Drive :HL-DT-ST DVD-RW_GSA-H41N ATA Device
Monitor Type :AOC International AOC Spectrum - 18 inches
Network Card :Marvell Semiconductor (Was: Galileo Technology Ltd) 802.11b/g Wireless Controller
Network Card :Marvell Semiconductor (Was: Galileo Technology Ltd) Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Operating System :Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Home Edition 6.00.6000
DirectX :Version 10.00
Windows Performance Index :2.6 (Lame) :P

So those are my current specs, so as you can tell I am only looking at most of those parts.

So I should upgrade my 4400+ to a 5400+?

It looks like you are using onboard video,

A HD 4850 would be much better then the 6100 you have, and a 5400+ would be better then the 4400+ but one one of the big questions is are you willing to overclock? You can overclock the 4400+ and have much better performance in games with the 4850, but if you don't want to overclock you could get both the 5400+ and the HD 4850.

Im not familiar with over clocking, but I know what it is. I just don't know how to, and also if I would be able to keep my pc cool enough, is it safe?

Is the OS 32 Bit or 64 Bit? 4GB of RAM and 32 Bit OS's do not mix well.

I believe 64bit is excellent on the AMD's, friend of mine uses 4GB completely by adding another 1GB stick of ram to his slot. Go figure, on a 32bit OS it registers at 3.50.
