On my motherboard i have a 2x/4x agp slot but i want to buy this geforce 6600 for christmas and it is agp 4x/8x. I never tried doing this before. Can the videocard work in my motherboard?

It will work but it will only run at the mobos speed of 4x. Like pettitman saidl, you should show us your specs and determine if it would be worth it.

ok.....well

these are my specs like u guys wanted..

-PC Chips M825g pro micro atx motherboard socket A

-Sempron 2800+
-Pny Optima 512mb pc2700 ram

-and the vid card i order is an asus geforce 6600 agp 4x/8x

ok so if i use this card with my mobo how bad will it be i mean will it still perform well or not? What other way is there to get an agp 8x slot besides buying a new mobo?

If the performance won't be good at all then i will just buy a socket 939 mobo and wait for the semprons for 939. do you guys think that would be better? I read in an article that the sempron 939's were going to come out towards the end of this year but we are already at the end of this year has anybody heard anything about it?

I had PNY geforce 6600 running at 4x, and when I bought a new mobo and ran through 8x, performance was basically doubled if not even more. 8x and 4x is like sky and ground. At least it was in my case. You might as well just get the best 4x graphics card, instead of 8x, since it will be cheaper, and performance will be basically same.
