Good to know, thanks. I'll stick with TX-2 for the forseeable future .

Have a question. My laptop is a compaq presario CQ57 with a intel celeron b800 processor 1.5 Ghz. And it goes in a socket G2.

I been looking and found a intel b840 1.9 Ghz thats fits in a G2 socket for $10.00 on ebay. Can i swap them out? Is there a big difference in 1.5 Ghz vs A 1.9 Ghz? Would it be worth it? I also do have 8 gb of ram, lol i know its overkill.

Depends on the power requirements and if the BIOS will take it.

I'd assume it would take it just fine, since it's still a b8xx series.

What about the 1.5 and 1.9 speeds. Is that a jump in performance? Or would i even see it?

Could this analogy be used when comparing speeds, i am more of a car guy, so i like breaking down stuff in mechincal terms, it helps me understand.

1.50 Ghz would equal 150mph, and the 1.90Ghz would equal 190mph.
1.9Ghz would create more heat and use more power than the 1.5. Is this true or is it more on how the processor is built?

Just a quick comparison:
Intel Celeron B840 vs B800

Down at the bottom it shows the same power consumption - I kinda doubt you'd notice much real-world performance increase honestly.

According to this that laptop comes with a variety of different CPUs. If the bios has the microcode for all I bet you could toss in the i3 370m and it would be fine. You'd actually notice a difference there.

I see the i3 370m being a G1 Socket. Mine is a G2. Would it work?

So would any processor work aslong as it has the G2 socket? Sorry for the questions.

No. Actually, there's even a good chance no other processor will work. The first and foremost thing that needs to be in place is the code for other CPUs to work in that particular board. Laptop boards aren't like desktop boards; they are typically only made to use one CPU.
