you can only use ddr2 if your mobo supports it so if you have ddr you cant have ddr2.

And to add to that, Intel only supports DDR2 currently.

RDRAM is the best RAM Speed and preformence wise but got the boot because it was to expensive and needed passive cooling.

The R stands for Rambus for those who don't know.

it's sad it takes them like 3 years to reach the RDRAM speeds again...

weren't there other reasons also for rambus getting the boot?
nevermind, i'm reading an article about facts and misconceptions about rdram @ http://www.hardwarecentral.com/hardw...eviews/1787/1/
apparently one thing i thought was a misconception. lol

yes, Because only Intel really pushed for its use, just like they did with BTX case formats and DDR2 memory.

Expensive and ran hot ... those are all the reasons it needed to get "the boot".

DDR typically runs faster, but DDR2 has larger bandwiths. Until DDR2 get's faster timings, I wouldn't say it's really worth it.

BTX Format

In short, the motherboard was basically turned upside down to what we are used to, so the CPU would be lower in the case, thus making it cooler, since heat rises.
