Default Video is choppy when using 1394, tried 2 different 1394 cards

I had a computer built last year and the mobo i went with (asus p5ql pro) doesn't have 1394 support, unbelievably. i completely overlooked that. so, i bought a 1394 card and my video is coming out really choppy... the video and audio don't sync up and there is a lot of lag in the video, just very choppy. so, i just bought a different brand of 1394 card and i'm having the same problem. i NEED 1394 to transfer video to my comp, and doing it by USB just produces low quality video compared to 1394.

i don't know what to do, any ideas? below you'll find my system summery (i got it from everest):
