Im getting a parts list together for a computer that i'm planning to build soon. I need help choosing a video card. A lot of people recomended the eVGA Geforce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit PCI Express x16 Video Card

I am not sure whether or not i need a card as good as that one. Ive also been looking at the much cheaper 256MB Geforce 6800

I'm not a big gamer, I'll use my computer alot for multimedia (dvds, video editing) and mabe a game once in a while... Is there good reason to go for the 7900GT or would the 6800 cover my needs?

If you don't want the 7900GT, as said above, the 6800GS is probably the best choice. I have one and now it's a very affordable price and will play every game out fine. Maybe not on max settings, but it'll definetly play them :).

depending on your "games" you'll play you might even consider going down to a 6200.. If your only going to play games like Civ 3, command and conquer, etc... they don't need that good of card... The newer games however, will... Possibly an X800 GTO... (not a BAD card... just doesn't have "NVIDIA" on it, just most people hate ATI)

Think about your games and what the specs for them might be first before jumping in... There is a HUGE selection out there... If you don't need it that powerful, then save your money for a better PSU, or CPU, or speakers, (for multi-media) etc... a more important part of the system...

Just my 3 cents

Haha seems that everyone is favors nVidia a little. I would have given an ATi card but I do not know how they perform. All of my friends at LAN parties use nVidia only... Shame. I might be getting the latest ATi card when AM2 comes out.
