I am rebuilding a system for my brother and he's looking to spend around $600. He's a big gamer and is looking to get ready for Battlefield 3. He won't be doing any overclocking or SLI/Crossfire. He just needs something solid that will preform well for him while gaming. That being said all he needs is a Mobo/CPU, a PSU, and a Graphics Card (he prefers Nvidia). He already ordered 8GB's of G-Skill DDR3, and has a case, and hard drive.

Originally I was going to try and do an i5 2500/2500k but I don't know if that's possible and still be able get a decent GPU. Any suggestions?

not my first choice if I was buying a power supply. not bottom of the pack either.
but for the budget, it'll do.

Looks good. Now if he were to spend another $100 or so would it be more beneficial to get an like a 60GB SSD for the OS or getter a better GPU?

For a hardcore gamer, I'd put the $ into a better GPU.
$248 Gigabyte HD6950.
$220 (w/MiR) EVGA GTX560 Ti.

Did his old computer have a retail or OEM version of Windows? If it was OEM that $100 might have to go toward a new copy since you're changing out the motherboard.
