upgrading ram in older computer...

alright my parent's computer needs more ram. It's got 128mb and its struggling with xp. The only problem is that back when they bought it....probably 5-6 years ago the gateway sales rep talked them into buying some kind of ultra-expensive rambus ram which he claimed was faster. I think im going to put about a gig in there but my question is will it be alright just to take all of that rambus stuff out of there and put in normal stuff? I know you cant mix it but im not sure if regular ram will work with the motherboard b/c of this special stuff...

You can only use RDRAM. In RDRAM, the empty slots must be filled. So you should find two blank sticks in there.
