I currently have a 250 watt power supply. I was wondering what you need to know about your current motherboard or power supply when upgrading to another power supply as far as compatability goes.

The only thing that I seem to be able to think of is size, and maybe if its intel or amd.

I'm on an intel 2.6ghz with HT if that helps at all, thanks. I'm also looking to buy from newegg, at least a 400watt psu... so if maybe someone could point me in the right direction, I'd love them forever.

some mobos are 20pin and some are 24pins.

check to see how many pins your mobo has. there are some power supplies that have both 20 and 24 pin.. (or more like 20+4 pins.. not 100% sure)

I have a gateway computer. It's about 3 years old.

I do not know how many pins I have, nor do I know how to check.

Thanks

check the power thing that connects to your mobo, if it has 24 pins then your mobo is 24 pin, if its 20, then your mobo is 20
