Hi, I want to upgrade my computer for gaming like left 4 dead 2. I have a Compaq Presario sr1650nx (HP Compaq Presario SR1650NX (Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, XP Media Center 2005) specs and Desktop specifications - CNET Reviews)) and my motherboard is a Asus A8AE-LE (Motherboard Specifications, A8AE-LE (AmberineM) Compaq Presario SR1650NX Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English))). I kind of want to upgrade the motherboard/processor, the graphics card, and the power supply but I don't have that high of a budget like $300, maybe $400. So I need suggestions on what to do about upgrading?

I would be starting off with the video card and some more ram. However I would be considering that you are better off in the long run making a new buid with a new motherboard and CPU later on down the track.

Like I am going to assume that your current CPU is a socket 939, and they stopped making those CPUs a while back. You might be able to get some thing second hand, however you are taking the risk of whether or not the motherboard is BIOS locked into that orginal CPU.

There are cheaper 4850's, but you need one that exhausts outside your case to hold down heat buildup. Sorry i couldn't find comparable combos, but these were the better parts at the best prices I could squeeze out of it.

I went with a 2x1GB kit of RAM since I figure you will be using XP 32-bit. If you plan on going with a 64-bit OS (Vista or 7), look for a 2x2GB kit of RAM.
