upgrading motherboard and cpu

So this is for gaming right now i have a EVGA gtx 570 overclocked
my cpu is like amd six core family phenom 11 and can only get it up to like 2.6.. But i want a better processor than i have now and amd has eight core processor but i keep hearing intel quad core is better than mine i just need some help to figoure out wat kind of processor and motherboard to get. This is all for gaming i appreciate your help.

Can you use CPU-Z (free download, no install required) to tell us exactly what CPU you have? From the sounds of things, your CPU is perfectly fine for gaming. More cores aren't the answer.
