Upgrading Laptop Processor

I recently recieved a DELL (about 3yrs old) laptop and was wanting to upgrade the CPU and the RAM.My question is how do I find out the #of pins my current CPU has and what CPU would be compatible as an upgrade.The same goes for my RAM..

Use CPU-Z, it will be able to tell you what socket your motherboard is.
