VIA and SIS chipsets are at the bottom of the barrel as you well know there. When looking over the new AMD chipped boards I frowned somewhat compared to the Asus models with either nForce or ATI. Despite running ATI model cards I still end up with nForce chipsets for some reason.
Some friend here was also insistent on going with 512mb AGP card and ended up with a VIA board. no thank you! I would take a good look over the PCI-E/AGP boards for later going PCI-E and still being able to run your current AGP card for the time being. But the problems with the models above is the only there that sees both AGP and PCI-E 16x is an ASRock low end board.
