Question Upgrading CPU - gen8 micro server

Ok,

I have a HP micro server gen 8 G1610T

I am looking to upgrade the CPU and the following below are all suitable (CPU heatsink design supports 35w)

Xeon E3-1220L (2 cores, 4 threads, Sandy Bridge)
Xeon E3-1220L v2 (2 cores, 4 threads, Ivy Bridge)
Xeon E3-1260L (4 cores, 8 threads, Sandy Bridge)
Xeon E3-1265L v2 (4 cores, 8 threads, Ivy Bridge
Xeon E3-1230 v2 (4 cores, 8 threads, Ivy Bridge -see caveats)

I do want to purchase either E3-1260L or E3-1265L, both 45w so a little higher than heatsink supports BUT I cannot find them anywhere!! besides 1 but it costs 400!??!

What would you guys rec out of the above? I want to run a max of 4/5 VMs.

You want to have one physical core per VM plus a core free for the host, so a 4 core with HT won't really cut it unless you are running LIGHT work on those.

Makes sense. Only 2 would be running medium/ heavy use, the other 2 would be a general servers with light use and last 1 just test server, so hardly in use.

I found Xeon E3-1260L for 160 , do you think I should buy it or hold out for Xeon E3-1265L as it is a boost in spec to the 1260L.

The E3-1260L should be fine right?

That depends on if a 100MHz boost in base clock is worth it to you.

I don't technically know how much of a difference 100mhz would make in comparison.. Put it this way I think it will cost an extra 150 to 200 , is that really worth it for the extra 100 mhz
