I'm concerned with physical clashes between parts (memory and CPU heatsink/fan in particular), reusing my CPU heatsink/fan, and if alternative parts I overlooked are available for less money or better performance for the same cost. This site was extremely helpful when I build that system above back in 2008 and hopefully will be just as friendly and useful for the upgrade in 2014. Thank you in advance.

Getting a non overclocking processor to fit on a board that enables overclocking. So for that what I would do is get an i5 4440 instead and grab a B85 board. The only possible clash in your selected config is the newer CPU may require a bios flash on the Z87 board.

I would also save 20 bucks and get this kit instead.
G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-8GAO - Newegg.com

Can also save a few extra bucks by getting the EVO instead.
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

With the combined savings I would look at getting the GTX 760 instead.
The cooler will fit the new board with the 1155 mount.

Thanks for the rapid reply! The G.SKILL Ares set of memory sticks was a great call to save $20 and save space without the gaudy heat fins.

The SSD was only $5 different in price.

You mentioned the cooler will fit the new board with the 1155 mount. Did you mean 1150? or am I missing something?
The ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2, CPU Cooler - Intel & AMD, Multi-Directional Mount, 92mm PWM Fan claims to work with Intel i5 1150 processors and the Z87 board I have listed.

Oh FFS Newegg  When I linked that SSD it was 88 bucks and if you look outside of the product page it still says 88 bucks.

1156/1155/1150 all use the same mounting hole position.
