upgrade help

I want to upgrade our computer as a present for dandy man - this is his wife -. At present we have an Asus A8N SLI delux motherboard with pci express. An Athlon AND 64 3200 939 socket cpu and 1 gig of DDR 400 ram. We have an XFX Navidia G Force 6600gt graphics card and 400 watt power supply. Initially we were looking for an upgrade on our board but 939 pin is getting harder to find and expensive. A 4800 cpu is £150

I am looking at an Asus P5W delux motherboard an AMD AM2 Athlon 64 duel core 5200 cpu and 2 gig of Corsair DDR2 memory.

I only have about £300 to spend can anyone tell me if this is the right way to go or advise a better route. Reviews seem to like the motherboard.

Needed for photo editing and general work some light gaming

you will be better off getting an Amd64x2 Am2 4200+ and then just overclocking it. I wouldn't get the corsair ram it isn't great the OCZ are god they were on offer on Overclockers UK a while ago

Many thanks both. Thanks for your advice and links b1gap. Decided to keep motherboard, add AMD 4200x2 CPU twin 1 gig OCZ ram and went for Sparkle 8600GTS graphics card total about 320. Havent used sparkle or Ocz before and have read the reviews so am looking forward to him opening his pressie. Many thanks.
