Default Which upgrade?

Ok, so heres the deal, my local computer show is comin up on the 25th and i would like to upgrade my pc, but i dont know if i should stick with the 939 socket or get AM2, one thing that leans me towards 939 is that i can reuse some of my old components. Here are my current specs

A8v DLX rev2
3200 64bit WInchester
2 gig of OCZ ram
6800 GT agp
Audigy 2 Plat
550 True Power Antec
74 Gig Raptor
120 IDE Seagate DR

I know that im going to get the 7900Gt card for gfx, but which cpu and mb should i get that it wont bottleneck the system? I dont wanna spend more then a $1000

definately get a AMD X2 3800 or 4400 dual core CPU.

for the mobo i would go with ASUS or DFI lanparty

a 7900GT wont bottle neck that cpu or mobo.

i wouldnt go with AM2 just yet. wait for more upgrades to become available.

Good advice, hmammen. I'd let AM2 mature a little bit before considering it. Same with Conroe.

The 4400 has 2 x 1MB cache, but so does Opty 165 and up.

thats true the opteron 165 has op. frequency of 1.8 ghz and 2x 1mb cache. almost identical to X2 4400, except is 90 dollars less. so which ever he decides is nice.

it will be unbelievably faster then the 3200, no comparison. cut load times in half or more.
