upgradding memory

I am thinking about adding a single gig stick of ram to my comptuer and I have a question about my options. I have an asus motherboard that runs a 32-bit amd athlon xp2400 and supports 3gigs of ram seperated into 3 slots. I have a 512 stick in the first slot and a 256 stick in the second. Would it be faster if I bought dual channel ram and took out the other two sticks or bought a single gig stick and slid the other two sticks over on the board?

Dual channel RAM won't help you, as the AthlonXP's and their mobos didn't/don't support it.

Buy the gig stick, put it in the first slot, the 512 in the second, and the 256 in the third. Or just buy two gig sticks and sell the other two on eBay...
