upgarding Ram

[AMD6415]

I am going to buy some new ram i know how to take it out and put it back in but i have only taken out the factory ram and put it back in when i buy the new stuff and add it to the factory do I just pop it and an start up or do i have to do something else and also i have 4 slots right now 2 are taken up with the factory does it matter what slot I put the new stuff in ? thanks if i matters i have a Dell 4600
