Default Updating a PC

You guys helped my son build his new computer. I was wondering if I could upgrage mine? or do I need to start from scratch?
I currently have a Gateway system P4 1.8 with a 1gb ram.
With a new 400w power supply.
Would the mother board he used fit in my case? He has the ASUS A8N5X ATX AMD Motherboard -$80.99
with a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 1GHz HT Socket 939 Processor ?

My case looks like it is the same size as the one he used. I'm concerned if the motherboard will have the same hole patteren?
Can you help?

Make sure that the gateway case your using is ATX and not Micro-ATX as it will not fit. If the case is an ATX case then your in partial luck. I'm not to sure if the LED wires for the front of the case will line up with the motherboard you've selected or pretty much any other board.

Would a transplant into another case be an option... take a gander over @ newegg they have some pretty beefy cases for cheap. Make sure you find one with a high enough voltage psu to keep you system stable. Preferably you would buy one from a reputable company such as Antec and various others. Welcome to tech-forums!!!

Just note that you will have to reinstall your operating system due to different hardware.
