Default Updating BIOS on a brand new Motherboard

I read somewhere else in these forums that you should update (if one exists) the BIOS on a new motherboard before installing Window XP. How do you do that? I thought the operating system needed to be installed before doing any kind of updates.

My new MB is an ASUS P4P800SE, if that makes any difference. Looking at the ASUS site and based on the model of the MB, it looks like there have been updates to the BIOS since the release date of the MB.

You don't need to but you can.

You need to make a MS-DOS boot disk. load an .exe and the rom file.

The full directions are on the Asus support site.

it is very dangerous to flash the bios, one screw up and the board is useless, so be careful
