No. The more powerful gpu itself should be set to be used and the other would just sit there.

What if I use two monitors? Would I just hook the 660 up to one monitor via Hdmi and my main monitir to the 970 via Hdmi as well? Would I lose any performance form having two screen from two GPU's as they both still run of my i5.

The 970 has more than enough power to run two 1080p monitors by it self.

The ONLY time when you should use MULTIPLE graphics cards are when you are going to do SLI, OR if you need support for more monitors than your GPU will support.
