Hello everybody!
My question arises from the fact that i have grown to hate crossfire. let me start from the beginning.
Back when i was building this PC a few years ago, i decided to go full-out and get the best rig i could afford, so it would last me for ages. While so far i am happy with its performance, i have grown to hate the fact that my GPU is essentially a crossfire of a crossfire.
What do i mean?
I run on 2x 5970 in crossfire mode. But thing is, 5970 is in itself actually an internally-crossfired card, which means instead of running on a single powerful card, like a lot of people do, or even two single cards, i run on FOUR single cards. While a lot of games seem fine with it, a lot more swear and refuse to work properly.
Add to it the whole hemorrhoids that i get every time i need to use radeonpro/ccc/some other crap program to make sure that the game works fine with my gpu, or whenever a driver makes my system not recognise one of hte chips or whatever - and frankly, i am now looking (albeit more exploring-like, than "Omg i need to buy"-like) if i need to swap out my GPU for something a bit more... manageable.
Now as i have stated already, i do not neccesarily plan to buy it right now - but i might - and i simply want to know a few things:
1) If i was to get a SINGLE card, which would bring performance in gaming similar to what i currently have, how much would it cost / which card would it be?
2) If i was to get a SINGLE card, which would bring HIGHER performance in gaming than what i currently have, how much would it cost / which card would it be?
3) With my current setup, do you think my next bottleneck (as games' graphics increase) will be GPU, CPU or something else? Is there any point upgrading GPU at this point for my setup?
4) Am i correct in assuming that if i swap my crossfire combo to a single card, i would have easier life managing my games performance, while still having good quality?
Here is some system info to help:
First, a DXDiag output:
