Question Thermal Pad + Paste

Do the heatsinks that come with processors usually come with a thermal pad on the bottom of them? And, if they do, is there no need to use thermal paste?

Thanks in advance.

new processor HSF's that come with processors have a square of thermal paste (not thermal pad) applied.

Great, so you think if I were to buy a new Athlon X2 the HSF that came with it would have the square of paste?
