tempurature??

i currently have this case:

it has a tempurature read out on the front of my case, as u can see. It doesnt come with instuructions so i printed the ones that newegg provided. in the instructions it say that i can tape the thermonter(cant spell that) on to the heatsink of my cpu to get the temp of my cpu, is this true? i also thought that it might melt the tapeif it gets hot? and is the heatsink the same tempurature as the CPU itself
