I plan on building a new comp this summer (or sometime) so i've been browsing newegg and putting together a system that seems suitable to me and around $500, but do note something may change as newer parts are becoming available.

Intel E4300 1.8GHz LGA775 (<-- waiting on price drop)

GIGABYTE GA-945PL-S3 LGA 775 Intel 945PL

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3120811AS 120GB

LITE-ON Black 16X DVD+R

Nvidia 8300GT (waiting on release and availability, and i'm not changing it as DX10 games as a standard are far away and the most major game in my life (Counter Strike: Source) is DX9 based, so....yea)

Do note, i'm still thinking on what case i want (if i get one) and i dont need a PSU (got a good one waiting for some use). Plus I WILL eventually upgrade to 2GB's of RAM but since my current needs dont exceed the 1GB of old stuff i have now i'm nto going to worry (plus i'm not getting Vista intill SP1).

Other than that i cant think of anything else, but do make suggestions. Its kind of hard not knowing if something isnt going to work plus i would like others opinions.

For a guy going the Intel route, it looks good. But you can get a cheaper processor if you go the AMD route, that will perform better than an E4300.

yes but i plan on overclocking the E4300, plus its supposed to drop to around $133 sometime here soon (which makes it an even better deal)

i think what he means is that its hard to get away with a budget of 500 or less and have a really good build with Conroe, but since the price drops are coming it does seem to be easier
