i was wondering what temperature an athlon 3200 would run at stock speeds on stock cooling under load and idle. Would replacing it with a better fan make a significant change in operating temperature?
right now my athlon 2000xp is running at 65 under load and when i do upgrade my cpu, i dont want it to run at any temps higher than 55 deg under load

When I had the stock cooler, I rarely got temps above 55ºC under full load on my 2000+. There's more to cooling down than just a new CPU fan. Purchase a tube of Arctic Silver 5 paste (just a tiny amount can probably lower the temp by a couple degrees celsius), and take some time to redo the cabling in your case, and if there's a vacant spot available in the case, an exhaust fan would definitely help.

A 3200+ would more than likely give the same results, but personally, I don't want it running higher than 60ºC under full load.
