Default small upgrade, what to buy

Im currently running a self built amd athalon 2 ghz and about 770 ram.

my dad just gave me his old dell dimension 4600 which is a Pentium 4 2.8 ghz. It needs ram, a new hard drive which should cost me about 80 bucks.

I was just wondering what kind of performance improvement ill get. im guessing P4 is now pretty old technology but this is what i have to work with because im poor boo hoo.

should i just scrap this idea and wait to buy a whole new rig?
