Default Sitting pc on side

hey guys/gals.

i''ve got a normal atx tower, and out of curiosity, will any of my pc components become damaged if i lay the pc down?

i ask because for sum time, i've had the pc resting on its side, then one day, it started to act funny n stuff, pc freeezes when i place a disc in the dvd drive, pc not booting up... stays at post screen. then when stood it up , my problems vanished.
