I'm uprading my computer's mobo (am2 socket), processor (X2), gpu (nvidia 7 series), and memory (ddr2). At the moment my HDD's are new as well as my psu and case. So I guess I'm really starting from scratch. I can handle the hardware installation bit but the OS is what makes me stop and ask for help. I only have recovery disks now for XP which I know is tailored to my current system. Do I need to purchase an XP oem or retail version for my new build?

Hey ACERANCH,
Welcome to T.F.!!

You only need to purchase the XP OEM version. The retail version, only comes with a pretty box and manual, that you don't need. Saves you money too.

That's what I thought. I didn't want to come to that point when it was time to install and find out I couldn't go forward 'cause I went cheap! Any thoughts on buying AMD dual-cores that are steadily dropping in price? I heard AMD is on the brink of collapse?!?

lol...I don't think their near collapse. They're just in a tough spot.

The X2s are good if you're wanting to build a budget machine, and not really overclocking.
