Hello All!

I have been charged with providing a secure backup system for my family's entire photo library, which at the current count is just over 16gb. I have looked into various USB drives but haven't been able to find one that fits the following requirements:

  • Must have a large capacity (500GB +)
  • Must be safe and long lasting (all USB drives seem to fail after a certain time)
  • Must be easy to use and access data
I have looked into Apple Time Machines as well but have heard that they can fail too.

My question is this, what are my options for a secure backup system that fits the above requirements?

Thanks in advance!

It's odd that you mention "secure" in the title but not in the requirements. Do you mean secure as in protected from malicious/unauthorised users or do you mean secure as in keeping the data safe from accidental deletion and mechanical failure?

google's picasa has a lot of free space, but for $5.00 a year you can have 20 Gb of storage. seems like a pretty good deal.

Select a plan:

20 GB ($5.00 USD per year)

80 GB ($20.00 USD per year)

200 GB ($50.00 USD per year)

400 GB ($100.00 USD per year)

1 TB ($256.00 USD per year)
Hide more storage options

2 TB ($512.00 USD per year)

4 TB ($1,024.00 USD per year)

8 TB ($2,048.00 USD per year)

16 TB ($4,096.00 USD per year)
