SATA1.5 and 3.0gbs

I'm using an ABit IC7-G motherboard and it supports SATA1.5gbs. Right now I'm running out of hardrive space and I want to purchase a SATA3.0gbs drive so that I can use it on my next build. Is it possible to run a 3.0gbs drive on a 1.5gbs SATA port? If not, I can just buy a pci card that has SATA3.0gbs slots in it.

Yes, they are backwards compatible.

The SATA 3.0Gb/s will work with 1.5Gb/s. It will just work at 1.5Gb/s transfer speeds, instead of 3.0Gb/s.

agreed. also note that you shouldn't go out of your way to get a SATA 2 drive as there is no difference in performance. if the one you want is SATA get it anyway.
