SATA hard drive question

I purchased a SATA Seagate Barracuda harddrive and was surprised that their
is a connection indicated jumper block.
I was under the impression a SATA hard drive has no jumpers to be set.
Why then this connection and how do I have to set it ? Or do I just
ignore it and connect nothing ?
Can anybody explain ?

No, that jumper is for backwards compatibility with sata 1.5, so it will work with sata 1.5 mobos.

If you leave the jumper on, it runs at 1.5. If you remove it, then it runs at 3.0 if your MB supports Sata 3.0.

Serial ATA interface disk drives are designed for easy installation. It is not necessary to set any jumpers, terminators, or other settings on this drive for proper operation. The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 150MB/s drives is for factory use only. The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 300MB/s drives can be used to force the drive into SATA 150MB/s mode for use with older SATA controllers that only work with SATA 150MB/s drives.
