alright i was doing some parts shopping and such and i was wondering how this price sounds for all this

amd athlon 4200+
Dual Nvidia 7800 GTX 512mb (Making 1 gb video ram!)
1 GB ultralow latency memory pc3200
360gb raid 0 hard drive
16x dual layer dvd rw drive
650 watt psu
nvidia nforce4 sli motherboard

hrmm forgot what kinda cooling, but it got the job done....

well the total price would be 3085 dollars

i was just wondering, cuz thats what i'm looking to save for instead of just upgrading what i got now

B/c that rig's all top-of-the-line-breaking-brand-new-tech-that-is-more-than-it's-worth-because-today's-standard-does-just-as-well-especially-if-overclocked kinda stuff.

Dual 7800 gtx? Why? There's not a game out there to my knowlege that'd exceed the limits of ONE
360 gig hdd? Overkill for -most- people
650 watt psu? Is that peak or continual wattage?
Sli mobo? Questonable for the reasons on the gfx card part

What I mean is this is all quality stuff. But what in the world would you be doin on your computer that would need something with that high of a capacity for that much money?

Let's start over. What are you looking for in your pc? Budget?

hrm well i really just want a computer that i wouldnt have to upgrade for a long time.. i know just one 512 would do fine and thats what i'm thinking of doing, or would a dual 256 be better??? cuz getting just dual 256 would be like 700 dollars cheaper or something like that and i was also maybe thinking of getting a 250 gig hard drive that came out to 2829 and for two 7800 gt's it would be 2348.. while the gtx was the 2829 ... for one 7800 512 it was 2391

i just wanna play games at really high frame rates while running at full quality

and as for my budget i would say 2000-3000 dollars

and building, i dont' know if i really wanna build myself, i have a good chance of messing up and i dont wanna risk that with expensive parts, and as for all of this its with warranty cuz its from alienware, if you could find a better place with the same stats as what i'm looking for and a price then i'm all ears or eyes to know

My rig's **** good gaming, apparently, and it hardly went over 1k =/.

If you want games at high settings, one 7800 gt is more than enough. There's not a game out yet, and likely there won't be for some time, that will exceed it's limits even on max settings. And it won't get bad enough to where it'll need to be upgraded for -years-, most likely.

100th post... woot :bald:

well i guess i configured a cheaper computer... still alien -_- too scared to build, but ya, here's a revised list and price

amd 3800+
Alienware 650 watt atx 2.0 psu
standard alien cooling -_-
Nvidia Nforce4 sli mobo
Dual nvidia 7800 gt 256mb
1 gb ultra low latency ram pc3200
160 gb raid 0 hard drive serial ata 7,200 rpm w 8mb cache
16x Dual Layer DVD±R/W Drive

ya thats about it and the total came out to 2303 dollars is that better, or good enough to play just about everything at full blast at over 70 fps?

i'm tired of playing doom like crap... haha

If you're going to have a rig built for you, go somewhere else besides AlienWare and Dell... please!

Look at Monarch (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merc...een=CTGY&Store_Code=M&Category_Code=PCSystems), CyberPower (http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/Default.asp), and iBuyPower (http://ibuypower.com/mall/lobby.htm).

If you just want to throw money around, check out HyperSonic (http://www.hypersonic-pc.com/2001/systems-gaming.asp), OverdrivePC (http://www.overdrivepc.com/gaming/index.htm), and Velocity (http://velocitymicro.com/).

holy crap!! i made a configuaration on http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/Default.asp and it was very similar to my alien i built and its only a lil under 2000!!! holy crap thats alot off!! well its actually better than that 2300 dollar one i set up.. holy crap thanks for the sites!!
