restoring Operating system

I have a laptop when I want to wipe all my files & details and place a clean version on MS XP.

I have tried doing this from a disc that I have but I am told that the version on the laptop is newer than the one on the disc.

How else can I do this?

What kind of disk do you have ?

they are both MS XP, though one is home & the other is professional
