Default Replacing my ram

Hello,

I recently upgraded my old dell pc with new parts except the hard driver and the ram.
I am wanting to buy more ram and I am not entirely sure what type I need. Am I right in thinking that I can only have a maximum of 2 gigs with this Mobo?

Could some kindly soul tell me what type of ram is needed?

Kindest Regards,

Mark

what model of dell is it? ie dimention 8100. You can also go to Memory upgrades, video cards, flash media, and storage at Crucial.com to find out what is compatable with your system. They are down at the moment but should be up soon.

Thank you for replying.

A dimension 4200 I think but only the hard drive is the same, the motherboard has been replaced.

run cpuz to get the motherboard info to make sure. According to your specs above it is the MICRO-STAR INC. MS-6788 20A but I could not find much info on that one.

I had a Dell Dmension 8200 and it took RAMBUS ram.....make sure your ram is not that.....because if it is ....it will be way to expensive to upgrade......if it is not rambus, then you should be fine.

MSI's site is having issues, but I found this:
MSI 848P Neo-LS (MS-6788) (Motherboards: Intel Pentium4) by MSI -- FiringSquad Hardware Info & Web Reviews

Socket 478, uses DDR RAM (Up to 2GB).

This would max your RAM:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Value 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Desktop Memory
