Hi

im quite new to pc building and am looking to build my own machine. i was wondering whether there were any books/sites (other than this one) that anyone could reccomend to help get me started, ive got a good knowledge of where all the bits go having upgraded my existing machine a few times, but now i would like to build a machine from scratch... prefrerably a high end machine so i would like some kind of guidance as i have never attempted this before! and i dont fancy burning out an expensive proccessor!!!

Have a look at the stickies at the top of the Building sections of the forum to start.

Also, have a look at these:
http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/
http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/pc-building/fitting/motherboard/
http://www.google.com

What I find that helps for the first time you build a pc, is if you know someone who has done it before to help you.

As for choosing the parts themselves, have a look at websites like:
www.tomshardware.com (The CPU/Vid card charts more specifically)
www.anandtech.com
www.xbitlabs.com

What you can do to make sure you are choosing the right parts, is make a thread saying something like "$1000 Gaming Build" and make a list of the parts you are thinking about getting. Then, wait for the critique of TF's membership:D

Welcome to TF, by the way:D Make sure to stop into the New Member Intros section and tell us a bit about yourself!

thanks

thanks for that ill certainly have a look at those before i begin i have a friend who builds them but hes away at uni so not easily accesible.. its quite daunting deciding what parts to go for so ill definatly check out all the info you've given me

cheers

Bill
