Honestly that would be worth considering if your budget can handle it. What kind of a budget are you looking at? Depending on that we will know better what to recommend (AMD or Intel).

Small quantity, I'm guessing.

Hey all, Before giving up on the rebuild option I decided to look into buying used parts. I found some offers on ebay.ca I was wondering if anyone had any input on buying used CPU's particularly buying parts from ebay.

Some links I found..

ULTRA FAST Intel Quad Core Q6700 Cpu Processor Quadcore on eBay.ca (item 250819239203 end time 15-May-11 15:39:15 EDT)

Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6700 2.66Ghz/8Mb/1066 s.775 SLACQ on eBay.ca (item 170641066023 end time 18-May-11 20:20:24 EDT)

If you have $1200 to spend then your best option is to build a new pc. There is nothing you can buy for your old computer that will make it run as good (stability and performance wise) as what you would have with a brand new one.

I would avoid ebay like it had the plague. While there are many honest people on ebay, there are just as many, or possibly more thieves and pirates.

This. You can always keep your old computer as a backup or give it to a family member who doesn't have one.
