Question RE:Does formatting really affects your laptop?

As far as I am concern, he never change his OS..He juz wanted to get rid of the programs and old files because his laptop's performance is getting slower..Should he buy new laptop? or buy new hardisk? Thank you for your replies...

Well what are the specs of his laptop. If they are decent then he should just buy a new hard drive. If they are really bad then he should just get a new laptop.

-Asus M3A78-EM AM2+
-Buffalo 2x1gb ddr2 800
-Hitachi 250gb Sata HDD
-Antec Minuet Case w/ 350w psu
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Try formatting. When I formatted I didn't see much difference, but it may be different for laptops.
