Default random access file server

whats the min system specs i should use for a random access server im gonna build one to house my 2 tb sata hard drives and don't really wanna spend a ton on it just something simple to store files and can be accessed by multiple computers with out lag

Not sure what you mean by random access in the context of a file server but pretty much anything will do for a home file server. You will need to consider how you're going to back up all your data though and also whether you need redundancy of some kind (I would recommend it).

by random i mean i have 4 computers and 2 xbox 360 that access it on a regular basis and i figured id set up a mirrored raid with 4 2 tb hard drives one set backing up the other if i had room id use a 8 2tb hard drives

That sounds fine. Just remember that the more capacity you have, the more redundancy you need. As a rule of thumb once you get to 11TB, 100% redundancy is not enough.
