RAM Question

Okay, I know this is pretty much a noob question, but I want to know if I can stick a PC3200 ram stick into a PC2100 slot and not have any issues. Is this possible and will the ram be as effective? (I know it won't be as effective as a PC3200 in a PC3200 slot, but will it be as effective as a PC2100 stick in a PC2100 slot?)

Yes most of the time it will run as a PC2100, so no worrys there.

If you mix ram speeds up, all the sticks regardless of the speed, will downclock to the slowest speed. In this case, PC2100.

just fyi i would NOT reccomend mixing ram sticks either with diff speeds of even from diff manufactures. It can cause errors down the road. especially if running in dual channel.

i thought to run dual channel you had to have two sticks matched perfectly... so if he has two different speeds, he should be ok.

dual channel is a 4% realistic performance increase
