I am new to this forum sorry if I do this wrong.
Basicly I am wondering how computers recognize what is ROM and what is RAM since they are both data storage devices. The reason why I ask this on this part of the forum is because I am wondering if (without readyboost) you can upgrade computer RAM with a thumb drive. In addition to responses I would also appreciate receiving sources.

ROM and RAM have different addresses, the machine knows the start/end address of each so it can access either as needed.

So there is no way to give a thumb drive (without readyboost) the right addresses. I find that hard to believe there must be a program you can write or something you can do in a terminal to tell a computer that the thumb drive is ram.

Although a thumb drive might be able to read/write faster than your platter drive, The USB port is going to slow you down as it would not be feasible to use as memory
