So despite spending the last several years both tinkering with my home computer(s) and working with them every day at work I, nor the business I work for, has ever had a need for any sort of RAID setup that I have had to worry about.

Now a friend of mine asked me to put a rig together with him and he is obsessed with backups and duplicity and wants a RAID 1 setup for his boot drive. Other than making sure that the mobo I pick supports RAID I have no idea how to do this, or if it is even an option to RAID 1 your boot drive (since he wants to be able to use the computer even if one drive fails). Any tips/guides you guys can suggest?

I have never set up a RAID using the motherboard (or at least I don't recall it) but you should be able to set up the RAID pretty simply in the motherboard BIOS. Vista and 7 will probably be able to get right on with it, XP might require a bit more work.
