I am new to building pc's and I have been given a QX9750 which after reading the forum sounds like it is worth keeping

My current system is a DELL vostro mini tower 400 (manufactured in 2008)
- 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 which supports speeds of 4Ghz.
- Main board OGN723
- Socket 775
- 2Gb's of DDR2 Ram.

Could you please tell me if the QX9750 is compatible with my current system but if not what hardware would I need to buy to upgrade to the QX9750 ?

Thanks,

Paddy

Quick search says no. I found a post where a qx9550 didn't work so a qx9750 won't either... Unless they eventually did do a bios update, but i doubt it.

Not all "quad cpu" motherboards can take the newer c2q cpu's. My 680i boards one like that.

But, it wouldn't hurt to try, if you want. Just get the newest bios first, then install.

Saddly to make the qx9750 work, you're going to need half a computer, plus windows. A 775 motherboard which does support 1333 fsb c2q's, then since Dells a weinie a new case and most likely a powersupply... unless you get a new micro-tower.

So for a bit more you might as well just get an 1155 brand new setup.
