Will this play CS:S and Half Life 2 on high settings?

Core 2 DuoT5600 1.83Ghz, 15.4in WideScreen, 1GB/120GB, CD/DVD burner, ATI radeon x1400 hypermemory 256mb Graphics, 802.11g wireless, 1yr warranty, windows XP.

I don't want vista or anything special just a laptop that will play Half Life 2 and CS:S for about $500.00 which is how much that laptop is.

what resolution??? i know a 7600gt destroys cs:s at 1600x1200 but i need a resolution

No it won't. And besides, the card will probably perform better at a higher resolution actually. I have a similar set up and I can barely do high settings on 1280 resolution. It's playable but it does dip into the low 20's now and then. So I usually just put it to 1024 and it runs like a charm.

ok how about the 128mb NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS, Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB), 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM, 120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive?

That one is for $599. oh and it comes with vista but I will downgrade to xp i think.

oh and how about Need For Speed Carbon? how will that do on high settings with 800 x 600?

or is it work upgrading to 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GT for $768 total?

How much better is the 8600M gt compared to the 8400 with 128mb?

If you want to game on a laptop, the 8600M GT is pretty much your best bet and there will be a very noticeable difference in games. I usually would advice against laptop gaming if you have a choice, but if you are **** bent on gaming on a laptop then there is really no excuse for not getting an 8600.

I just need a 3rd gaming rig and the desktop i was looking at building would have costed way too much and thats without a monitor. I wanted the amd athlon 64 x2 6000+, evga geforce 8800gts, 2gb ddr2, and other stuff but way too expensive.

The electric would be very expesive also.

Oh yeah and thank you guys for all your help. I think I will get the 8600 if I have that much for a laptop.

would a nvidia go 7600 be better then the 8600M gt?

never mind i just found laptop benchmarks and the 8600M gt kills the go 7600 256mb.

I told dell i was a hardcore gamer and they tried to sell me an inspiron 1501 with the ati radeon x1150.

I found a cheap dell but with taxes and shipping it was $200 more. I was on the phone with them for about 30 minutes cause the lady kept on talking nonstop.

Well neatless to say by by dell you guys suck anyway but now you really suck. they dug themselves farther down my hate list now.
